Welcome to our new employee spotlight series Stuck in the Lift*. The people at Vaadin are at the core of our business, and with this series we want to celebrate their contributions. Plus, Vaadiners are quite a diverse and interesting bunch, so we thought you might be curious to know who’s behind the scenes at Vaadin helping you build your web apps. Every few weeks we'll feature a different member from our team of smart, fun, and quirky #Vaadiners.

Feature imageMikael first joined Vaadin as an intern in 2019 and has since quickly risen through the ranks. Currently as our Product Marketer he spends his time planning and creating brilliant marketing content for our products like Collaboration Engine and Vaadin Fusion. He also actively communicates with our global community of over 150 000 developers.

Describe your role at Vaadin in 3 words.

Writing, all day.

What surprises people the most about you?

I’ve got a Bachelor’s degree in game design. People are often surprised to learn you can study games at universities.

Why is UX important for workplace apps?

Workplace apps should make work easier, not harder.

What is your most memorable facepalm moment at work?

I scheduled a Tweet and then logged off for the day. However, that Tweet had a typo and ended up tagging the wrong user! I always quadruple-check now before hitting publish.

Where is your happy place?

I love to get lost in music.

How do you relax outside of work?

Mostly by playing games with friends. Sometimes with enemies.

Name your superpower.

Time travel! So I could go back and fix that Tweet...

*As a company founded in Finland, there is nothing more awkward to a Finn than standing in a lift and having to make small-talk ;)
