Vaadin was founded to make it easy for developers to build great web apps. We have been on that path for the past 17 years and today our mission keeps looking as important as ever.

To best communicate what Vaadin stands for we have from time to time refined our brand: how we hope people will see us. The major revolution in the brand happened in 2009 when we changed our name to Vaadin. Today I am proud to announce a smaller update to clarify what Vaadin stands for.

We strongly believe in simplicity

When user experience is simple, the user will feel empowered by being able to focus on what matters the most. They should not be distracted by apps misbehaving on the device of their choice or latencies stopping their flow. The user interface should be beautiful and intuitive enough to make training and instructions unnecessary.

Making something simple is not simple at all. But we believe it should be. Our passion is to make the development of great user experience easy. If we are able to simplify the development, you can focus on simplifying the user experience.

When your app just works, the user will fall in love with it. And when your team finds it easy to build that app with Vaadin, we hope all of you join us in the fight for simplicity.

Values we build on

DESIGN WITH INTENT
Great design is our passion. To define what is a great design, one should always start with the intended use and work from there, to find the simplest and the most beautiful design that fits the purpose.

SAVING TIME
Time is the most valuable thing any human has. When an app saves time for the user, they will value it. When we save time you spend developing the app, it can be repurposed for creating user value through better UX and features.

NO FLUFF
We do not believe in sugarcoating and cannot stand nonsense. Let's instead be transparent and frank. We hope that at the end of the day everyone will appreciate that the communication is clear and simple.

FREEDOM OF CHOICE
Developers should always be in control. We must ensure that your choices are not limited by technologies, abstractions, licensing or anything else. While we hope that people would use everything in the Vaadin platform, that hope should never limit you from cherry-picking just the parts you like and use them in the way that is most convenient for you.

Visual language

I hope what you see in our new website will explain our new visual language better than any words could. Look around.

We refined everything from fonts and colors to iconography with the purpose of simplifying the expression. Some changes are minute, like spending days refining every curve in the Vaadin logo. Some are more visible, like the introduction of our new reindeer mascot to remind everyone that "vaadin" in the Finnish language stands for a female reindeer.

What do you think? Comment below. If you like what you see, ask our team for a laptop sticker or a T-shirt with the reindeer when you see them in an event near you.

Living the new Vaadin

The brand is just a first glimpse of the next phase on the road ahead. There is something big coming around the corner and we thought it would be good to remind you what Vaadin stands for, by cleaning up and refining the brand before that. Stay tuned!

Join us in the FIGHT FOR SIMPLICITY in end-user experience and in developer experience!
