Our holiday gift for the community
As the Vaadin tradition goes, at the end of each year we want to give back to you to say thank you. Thank you for your support and for being active community members, whether it is by sharing your Vaadin projects with us, helping out other developers on the Vaadin Forum, or tweeting about us.
Without further ado, let’s introduce the Collaboration Engine Sampler and see what it’s all about.
Meet the Collaboration Engine Sampler
The Vaadin Collaboration Engine turned one this year. This got us thinking about how we can better provide users with the feeling of collaborating within a multi-user environment. That is how we came up with the Sampler. See the documentation.
The Sampler helps you try out all the different Collaboration Engine features such as creating a chat, working on forms with other users, and more! In addition, you can copy and paste code snippets directly from the Sampler and use them in your own applications.
How to use it
We wanted to keep things simple, so to get started just click on a sample, add a user, and start interacting with the user windows!
Our current samples include:
- Creating a chat to see how real-time messaging would look like for users.
-
Working on forms together, which uses our CollaborationBinder to show users who else is working on a field, and see changes as soon as they leave the field.
- Show online users to see who else is working in the same view or topic as you using avatars.
- Creating a custom active user list, which makes use of our PresenceManager, and allows you to customize the way to display other active users, among other things.
Pro tip: You can also share the URL with someone else to experience real time collaboration together.
Let us know your thoughts
This is just the beginning for the Collaboration Engine sampler. We will be updating and adding new samples to it going forward, so be on the lookout for those!
In the meantime, let us know your thoughts on the Sampler; did you find it helpful? What would you like to see us include in it? Share your thoughts or questions with Product Owner, Giovanni, directly on Twitter, or on the Vaadin Forum.
