Migrating from Vaadin 7 to Vaadin 14 for long-term stability
Fujitsu maintains a car insurance application solution for one of the leading insurance companies in Finland. The application was implemented with Vaadin 7 and features a wizard that allows agents to fill in all the required information for car insurance applications.
Since Vaadin 7 has reached its End-of-Life, meaning that it will no longer receive support for security vulnerabilities or browser compatibility issues, Fujitsu decided to modernize the application by migrating it to Vaadin 14, which is an LTS (long-term support) version.
Utilizing Vaadin's Application Template Creation Service for streamlined development and efficiency
Fujitsu wanted to get a head start on the new project and decided to use Vaadin’s Application Template Creation service. This service aims to assist our customers by creating a baseline for their projects, including the project structure, main layout, view, and component examples. By providing this foundation, customers quickly begin their projects and focus on the business logic of their applications rather than spending time on details like project configuration and layout design.
In just one week, we assisted Fujitsu with the following tasks for their application:
- Created a multi-module project structure, separating the frontend and backend parts into different modules.
- Implemented a main layout that replicates the appearance of the original Vaadin 7 version.
- Integrated the application with their authentication system.
- Developed a Wizard view with steps, including example codes demonstrating binding, validation, and custom components such as card selection.
