A couple of years ago, along with the release of Vaadin 7, we chose our Eclipse plugin to be based on a dependency management tool called IVY. Still most of us, even most of the Eclipse users, are not using IVY. This has naturally made the plugin irrelevant for most Vaadin Eclipse users, but today, I’m honoured to announce a first class support for the most commonly used Java build tool, Maven.
Project templates are now based on Maven archetypes, with a Vaadin specific dialog.
Although Vaadin users don’t necessary need an IDE plug-in at all, today is a good day for Maven users to look into what kind of features the Eclipse plug-in provides:

New features for all users
One improvement for all users is the broader selection of project templates. They are based on Maven archetypes and there is now, for example, a solid base for your add-on projects and a couple of starting points for different kind of applications. And we’ll be announcing new project templates in the future.
The plugin also has better integration with vaadin.com. Your IDE can now show the same notifications that you can see on the vaadin.com site, tipping you about new versions, new add-ons and new technical articles about Vaadin development.
