In my opinion, only Base, Reindeer, Runo and Chameleon are actively maintained (not much but still), and the Liferay theme hasn’t gotten much attention after it’s initial release.
But officially, I guess all of them are officially supported.
I’ll ask the Magi, the book author (and Vaadin certification question author), for his comments on this.
Chameleon used to be an add-on and I suspect that one location in the book didn’t get updated at that point.
Base is not really a user-level theme but an internal one for developers who start making themes from scratch rather than on top of the user-level themes, which is probably why it isn’t described in more detail in the book.
Liferay theme is only meant to be used on the Liferay portal.
If there is a certification question where this causes problems due to ambiguity, we should probably fix it.
The certification question asks essentially for the three themes in normal Vaadin applications: [tt]
reindeer
[/tt], [tt]
runo
[/tt], and [tt]
chameleon
[/tt], plus the [tt]
base
[/tt] theme. I don’t know which book edition you are reading, but these are all mentioned at least in
the current section 8.4.4 . The theme chapter has been revised recently and the built-in themes are no longer listed in 8.4.1, so you must be reading some older version. Not sure which, the latest printed book edition (2013-11-11) didn’t mention the built-in themes at all in 8.4.4.
The biggest problem is that the latest printed book doesn’t mention the base theme at all. We are using those in training and the certification should be compatible with that, so the base theme should probably be removed from the certification question.
Indeed there is also the liferay theme, but it’s not currently mentioned in the theme chapter, but only in the Liferay chapter. I’m not sure why it’s not mentioned, I probably had some reason for that. But, it’s not asked in the certification question either, so it’s not a problem there.
The theme chapter is currently under revision, and these should be clarified soon. (The section structure will also be reorganized significantly.)
