I can remember having read a comment from one of the Vaadin people that Vaadin was not so much suited for an application with a backend as RESTful services.
Has any one more comment or experience on this matter ?

Vaadin is a server side framework for producing interactive web applications (aka RIA/AJAX applications), for use by People, not Other Applications.
It is not suitable for
producing
RESTful services - that’s not it’s intent.
There is absolutely nothing to stop Vaadin
consuming
RESTful services.
There is absolutely no reason why you couldn’t have RESTful servlets along side a Vaadin application inside a Web Application.
