New Year

New Hijinks

N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine, better known as Melatonin, is a hormone that is released when you're in the dark, it causes drowsiness and it lowers your body temperature. It has a huge influence on our body clock. Without true sunlight, your body chemicals makes you think it's time for bed all the time and you're unproductive. Good thing winter solstice is far behind us, and we're starting to see the sun outside of workhours again.

Directory Pick: Animator, by Jouni Koivuviita

Usually the Vaadin widgets are pretty static. They're done with function in mind, with the fat trimmed off, which makes them work as well and stable as they do. But if you want to breathe a bit of life into them, this has usually lead to opening your Eclipse and delving in the world of GWT and Vaadin widget making.

Luckily, that's in the past. If you haven't seen Animator, you've missed a lot. It's a library for animating any component in a way or another. Used properly, It can draw your user's attention to the right places in the UI, and make transitions less jarring.

The Animator demo application is very informative and visually inspiring. For example, notice the nice fade transition when changing tabs.

Animator is available at Vaadin Directory, licensed under Apache 2.0.

Knowledge for Everyone!

There's always something new to learn from any given topic, even if you think you already know everything by heart. Vaadin is no different, and that's a good thing. This is partly because Vaadin is evolving constantly, partly because every now and then you do something with Vaadin that you haven't done before with.

To give you more knowledge and inspiration, here's a compiled list of top resources, in no specific order, for learning new things about Vaadin.
