Vaadin without Servlet ?

Hi,

 Everything is in the title ,  i know that vaadin framework is deeply based on the servlet technologie spec

i was wondering ( as i don’t know enought of the core framework yet) , if it’s possible to imagine vaadin running somewhere
else than in the servlet context ( container be it lightweight or heavyweight ) ? is it feasable ? eventually what would it take ?
i’m thinking about a future ( i dont really know maybe 5 to 10 years) where we no longer are massively dependand on the servlet web technologie in the java web ecosystem .

what are your thoughts on that in general as an open question. it’ debate so voice yourself or give some insigth on the subject

Its on an older version of Vaadin, but Henri has made a showcase of running Vaadin on something else than a servletcontainer:
