Vaadin Editor - Missing "Design" tab.

Hi,
I have a problem with editor. In my case the “Design” tab doesn’t appear.
After creating new composite class I have access to “Source” tab only. I’m using ubuntu and eclipse juno.

Regards

I have the same problem :frowning:

Can you resolve this?

In the project explorer, right click on the file and select Open With → Vaadin Editor.
After this, Eclipse should remember the correct editor to use for that file.

Creating a visually editable class with the wizard should normally set the correct editor automatically but e.g. checking out code from version control might not.

Hi Henry,

I tried your sugestion but is the same, only appear the source tab.

I have attached an image as evidence, may be i have some worng about the vaadin plugin
12557.png

Please close the editor, open the error view (Window → Show View… → Other… → Error Log) and then reopen the editor.
It might also be that some problems are logged already at Eclipse startup so opening the error log and then restarting Eclipse might give more information.

Which are the exact versions of Eclipse and the Vaadin plug-ins you are using? You can see these in Help → About Eclipse (on the main page and then clicking the Vaadin icon).

I have exactly the same problem with Ubuntu 12.04 and Eclipse Juno. It is interesting that plugin works correctly in Lubuntu and Xubuntu, but doesn’t work in original Ubuntu distribution. How to fix this problem? This is the error log:

It looks like you are missing Mozilla XULRunner on your Ubuntu (no longet included in 12.04), and Juno has problems when not finding the embedded browser it wants to use.

Try to install a suitable version of XULRunner and see if it helps - see e.g. the later replies in
this Ubuntu forum post
.

It would be good to have a proper error message about this, though - I’m not sure why Eclipse or the plug-in does not warn about this first.

For me this simple command solved the problem:

sudo apt-get install libwebkitgtk-1.0-0

WebKitGTK+

With or without XulRunner installed it was the same, didn’t work.

I tested this with:
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Eclipse Juno JEE
Vaadin 2.0.1.201211280958

Thank you Ricardo!!!

Finally i can see the vaadin editor, i thought it was a myth

jeje kidding

Thanks to Ricardo , his comment solve the problem.
I just have to add that you need to restart eclipse after these package installation.

Thank you! After hours of trying to figure this one out, I found this.

I have the same problem, only on a different configuration:
Win 7 x64
Eclipse 4.3.1 Kepler
Vaadin plug-in for Eclipse 2.2.0.201306261112

I tried to install XULRunner (different versions: 24, 1.9.x) but no luck.
When I open a CustomComponent with the Vaadin Editor it opens a blank page without title and only the Source tab on the bottom. When I click the Source button, than it throws the attached exception and it displays the source of my component.
Any thoughts how should I proceed?

Nagy, I am getting the same error as yours. Did you find any resolution yet?

K

Found a workaround:
http://vivagwt.blogspot.mx/2013/08/eclipse-kepler-and-vaadin-7-visual.html

I also had the same problem, Kohinoor’s link provided a workaround.
Homever, there is still the annoying Eclipse error complaining “Could not start XULRunner (version 1.9 or higher required)” every time I open a composite file. There are no new errors in Eclipse error log when this happens.

Win8 64-bit
Eclipse Kepler (Version: Kepler Service Release 1, Build id: 20130919-0819)
Eclipse Vaadin Plugin (2.2.0.201312051010)

Eclipse Kepler (eclipse-jee-kepler-SR1-win32-x86_64) (no problem by Indigo)
Vaadin Plug-in for Eclipse: 2.2.0.201312051010
Windows 8 x64bit

that was the solution.

designer is now visible, but there are no components in the toolbox…

Same as that of ‘tso tsogoo’…
Wonder why even after 5 months of the comment Vaadin didn’t comeup with a solution…

I’m trying out Vaadin for the first time and as an IntelliJ user I decided to give it a spin on IntelliJ 13 as a Maven project and works fine (but no Visual Designer unfortunately).

To take advantage of the Visual Designer I downloaded the latest Eclipse for Java EE release, Kepler Service Release 2 (4.3.2), on Windows 7 64-bit and I found this same issue.

After some digging and here I am to say that the workaround of installing the Mozilla XULRunner enables the Visual Designer but always gives me the same warning when starting Eclipse (even after saying to never show the message again). Do I have to download a previous release of Eclipse? Would Eclipse Kepler 32-bit work fine?

The issue doesn’t give many details:
http://dev.vaadin.com/ticket/12141

I guess I’ll start trying out Vaadin on IntelliJ without Visual Designer, if it’s too much of an hassle on Eclipse (also I get better perfomance out of IntelliJ).

Cheers
