How to render option group in multiple columns

our option group(assume list of all states of US) renders vertically taking lots of space. how can we render it in multiple columns and rows.
I do not find an option to change orientation (vertical vs horizontal) and specify number of columns/rows.
Please help.

please try the
FlexibleOptionGroup
 add-on. It should do the trick.
