The next stable version of Vaadin Framework - code named "St. Petersburg" is released today at the first Russian Vaadin Meetup - in St. Petersburg.

The focus of this release is quality and the release includes only few new features. Instead we have put a lot of effort in building numerous regression tests - including over 8500 pixel level regression tests - and corrected many annoying bugs to make this the best Vaadin release so far.

Some of the features in the release include:

  • Logging - You can now configure logging level with java.util.logging for Vaadin to get rid of unnecessary messages.
  • GWT 2.1.0 - Update to the latest version of Google Web Toolkit gives you numerous features, optimizations and fixes.
  • Windows (within a browser window) can now be ordered and their focus can be controlled programmatically.
  • Chrome frame is now officially a supported browser. Hopefully this helps speeding up old installations of IE6.
  • Text components can finally be configured to send key-presses immeately back to server

We urge everyone developing Vaadin 6 -based applications to upgrade to 6.5.0. You can download it today from the Download Page or from the Maven central repository.
